RESTORATION UP TO 2011
Progress as told by Rich Rhoads
Depot Organizational News
Great News!!! The Oregon Depot Museum restoration is back on “track” after two years of minimal activity during 2009 and 2010.
New Board of Directors – Directors are as follows: Roger Cain, President; Rich Rhoads, Vice President; Skip Johnson, Treasurer; Rosemary Underwood, Secretary; Eric Morrow, Attorney; Otto Dick; Joe Underwood.
Bob Rees and Jim Lauer both resigned in Spring 2011. Both were founding members responsible for saving the depot and leading the organization successfully. We are saddened to relay that Jim Lauer passed away after a short illness in November 2011.
Depot Museum Committee – Persons interested in the the “Museum” aspects of the Depot are creating a mission statement and comprehensive plan. One enthusiast has the means to establish an interactive rail/depot experience including live radio traffic monitoring throughout the Depot. Lots of excitement in this group.
Property Improvement News
Connection to City Storm Sewer – Roof/downspout drains were connected to the city storm sewer this summer. This was an expensive project as it involved digging in new drain lines. Mike Bowers and the Oregon Street Department together with Mickey Tate Trenching did a great job.
Depot Weatherization – This summer a plan was completed including bids for attic ventilation, attic insulation and storm windows. This project is a priority and funding to the tune of $12,000 is needed.
Alumni Group Projects – This faithful group of Oregon High School classmates from 1949-1952 have not missed a Depot week workout in the last 10 years. Their contributions and accomplishments have been numerous over the years. We look forward to their arrival every September.
Fund Raising Efforts Continue
Memorial Brick Project – Now that the drains have been completed, street side curb and bricklaying will follow in the future. We continue to sell Memorial Bricks. A small sample of bricks has been temporarily laid on the street side of the depot main door. Brick order forms are available here.
Holiday Season Tradition
Former Station Agent Roy Sharick’s traditional Christmas tree is in place with all the trimmings thanks to Cheri Wright, Darlene and Lisa Schultz, and Scott Wallace. The Depot was open for Oregon’s Holiday Candlelight Walk.
